Why We Started Sweet Zensations

Hey, it’s Chantelle and Ken here, the owners of Sweet Zensations.

Firstly, thank you so much for your support on our journey thus far, we are really excited for you to see what more we have in store!

We wanted to take a minute and get into why we started this company and what it means to us.

Our Background

Being a couple that includes an AAPI background, we have seen and been on the receiving end of discrimination many times. We know what it feels like to be looked at differently, and during the pandemic, that problem was exacerbated. It was so hurtful to see headlines in the news every day that targeted people in the AAPI and Asian communities. Seeing the attacks on AAPI people was terrifying and made us not want to leave our home.

Once the pandemic started to wind down we realized that a big part of the hate and misinformation was due to a lack of understanding and representation of Asian cultures in the media and in every day North American life. This is where the inspiration for Sweet Zensations came from.

The Beginning

We thought about how we could increase AAPI representation in a way that was fun and encouraged people to learn more. We settled on candy because of Ken’s love for gummy bears and decided to experiment with Asian flavors.

Some of you may be familiar with these flavors already, but you may not know the history or origin of the flavors. Others may have never heard of them at all. Still, some others may have grown up with these flavors in your home, and we hope to do them justice by bringing a piece of that nostalgia to your experience with our candy.

Next Steps

Our mission at Sweet Zensations is to celebrate and champion Asian flavors and the diversity they bring to the North American market.

Our goal is to not just provide a delicious treat but to guide you on the path of discovering flavors that may be unique and new to you, as well as to provide nostalgia for people who already love them.

We are working on a line of gummies inspired by Asian flavors, and hope that you will continue to support and follow us as we grow.

In the meantime, we will continue to share content that we hope will increase representation and awareness of different Asian cultures.
